Nenny May (born Nnenna Mary Nwokoro; February 21st, 2002) is a Nigerian-based novelist, short-story writer, and author. Her books are characterized by female protagonists, suspense, and thriller elements.
A long-time lover of books Nenny has always sought comfort between the pages of a good book and was enticed to start writing on the reading and writing platform Wattpad where her books in the first two years of release accumulated over fifty-thousand avid readers. Capitalizing on that, Nenny took to the professional world of writing and continues to share her books with her readers.
At nineteen, Nenny who has already become a Google verified personality, begun writing despite knowing that her audience wasn’t within her reach. She was aware of the saturated market in publishing in Nigeria when she released her first book, Missing at eighteen years old. She was going to become yet another Nigerian author, beneath the shadows of her successors. But Nenny rose to the challenge, distinguishing her works from those of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and the likes, and building a brand unique to her and her creative voice.
Relying on knowledge obtained from studying law in Baze University, Abuja, Nenny began writing legal and psychological thriller novels that have drawn in an international audience.
Taking it a step further to release her second book The Perfect Father without an editor, proofreader, or graphic designer, Nenny who is a self-taught grammatical and structural editor, graphic designer, and proofreader has inspired many with her determination and independence. Nenny finds inspiration for her book by researching true crimes. Her thrillers though always told through a third-person perspective, have elements of mystery, suspense, and romance. Her brand as an independently published author has made her quite the notable name in her country, and a good influence to many around her.
But she doesn’t stop there, anticipating the release of her third novel Miller Avenue Murder in September, Nenny confesses to owing her success and fame to her roots. Being a Nigerian of eastern descent, Nenny owes her passion for writing to her land, to her friends and family who stuck by her dreams to becoming a renowned author.
Nenny May was born in Abuja in north-central Nigeria to Nigerian parents, Juliet Obianwu who is a lawyer, and Charles Nwokoro, an engineer. Nenny May pursuing her mother’s footsteps enrolled in Baze University, Abuja, where she is currently studying law. Nenny recalls growing up with a desire to read and at 14, when she was introduced to the reading and writing platform Wattpad where this desire grew and she began telling stories on this platform one of which was featured on the website’s homepage in the representation of Black History Month. At the age of 17, she began using the pen name Nenny May in place of her real name Nnenna Nwokoro.
Nenny May attended the local state schools; Pace Setters Academy, Abuja, junior high at Pace Setters College, and senior high at Divine Mercy Secondary school, Abuja and is now enrolled in Baze University Abuja. In her third year at Baze University, she published her debut novel Missing(2020).
Less than a year later she released her second novel The Perfect Father(2021), which went on to become an Amazon bestseller in its first few months.
