Nigerian Author, who doesn’t write Nigerian Books? Meet Nenny May
Not many are familiar with the name Nnenna Mary Nwokoro. That’s because the nineteen-year-old author is best known for her pen name Nenny May where she has published two books on her own, gained an international audience, and is anticipating the release of her third book Miller Avenue Murder in September 2021.
Nnenna Nwokoro, Nenny May is a controversial name in the Nigerian author community as she might have her roots in Nigeria, but has made a name writing and publishing books that aren’t set in her country or state.
This was first observed with the release of her first novel Missing, which she published during quarantine in September 2020. This book was set in Charlotte, North Carolina and when asked about why her books weren’t set in Nigeria, Nenny refused to comment on the matter.
The pattern only continued with the release of her second book The Perfect Father released January 2021 which was set in Harlem, Manhattan, New York. Yet again, Nenny remained tight lipped.
With her third novel due September 2021, Miller Avenue Murder, set in Tillamook Oregon, the media is itching for an answer to the long posed question of why the Nigerian of eastern decent has refused to tell her stories in her mother land.

She is originally from Imo State due to her father being from Imo and her mother being Ijo, Nenny was born on the 21st of February, 2002.
Her education is still ongoing as she is enrolled in Baze University, Abuja, Nigeria. Nenny struggled with loneliness and bullying during her secondary school education which had a part to play in the genre of her novels.
Due to the fame she gained through publishing her books, Nenny May has been able to build a brand as an independently published Nigerian author at the age of nineteen.
In the course of publishing both her books, Nenny May has managed to get the media talking for many reasons, one of which is her young age.
Nenny May took to writing at the age of fourteen and within four years released her book to the world on her own without an editor, proofreader and graphic designer and her books have startlingly been well received in the writing community.
Although seen as a controversial figure in the Nigerian writing community, Nenny May has managed to make a name for herself as a young Nigerian author.
